Services: Plating & Finishing : KG Gun Kote |
Gun Kote was first developed for use on military weapons. The United States Navy Seal Teams were the first units to use this product. There was a need for a material that would hold up under extreme adverse conditions. The coating needed to withstand over 500 hour salt spray tests and still meet the military machine gun firing requirements. Gun Kote does this and has earned a remarkable reputation in the firearms industry over the last 40 years.
KG's Thin film coatings for anti-corrosion and self lubrication of firearms (in arduous field conditions with high firing rates) are well proven. KG coatings have been formulated for protection of ammunition cases, shells, and large weapon systems are intentionally specified by defense authorities including U.S. MIL.; U.K. DEF. and SANDF.
KG's Gun Kote is a modified phenolic resin which is thermally cured between temperatures of 300 and 325 degrees F. Gun Kote is a thin (.0003 to .0005) hard coating that will give excellent protection from abrasion. Gun Kote uses Molybdenum Disulfide as its lubricating base. It is not easily worn off such as bluing, phosphate or chemically blackened surface treatments which can leave metal surfaces bare and unprotected from the elements. Gun Kote does not attract dirt or dust, and has excellent impact resistance.
Gun Kote will withstand an average of 500 Hours in a Salt Spray Chamber at 5% salt. In some cases Gun Kote has passed 1000 hour salt spray tests. The African Army tests on Corrosion was a 7 year equivalent and Gun Kote has passed Military Test Specification which call for a 30 year equivalent salt spray test.
Gun Kote will provide excellent wear life
Gun Kote was tested against 17 different chemicals from Hydraulic Oil to Sulfuric Acid.
Gun Kote will resist Temperatures over 500 degrees F and as low as -325 degrees F.
Gun Kote will help keeps parts cool due to its heat dissipating qualities.
