We just learned that Colt is discontinuing the WWI repro pistol and they replace it with model 01918. The 01918 is a WWI repro that is finished in a Black Army style finish instead of the Carbonia blue as the WWI ones. The 01918 will not be a limited run pistol. We hope to have a few pictures of the new Colt soon.
I first met the nice folks from Auto Ordnance at the 2007 Orlando SHOT Show, where I also first touched their 1911s. The quality was (at first look) just fine, so I asked them for a review pistol. In this review we put the AO model 1911PKZ SE through its paces and tell you how we liked it.

I just got informed that Jim Cirillo, one of the most proficient gun fighters in the world, was killed last night in a car-truck crash in NY. A member of the New York City Stake-Out Squad (1968-1973) Jim Cirillo's only job was to confront the most hardened and dangerous armed criminals in the city. During this time he was involved in seventeen shootouts and more armed confrontations than can be counted. During the years following his retirement from the NYPD Cirillo worked as a firearms instructor for several schools. Mr. Cirillo was half Greek, from his mother side and was 76 years old. My most sincere condolences to his family.

It was one of the worst moments in my entire life, when I was informed that the President and Founder of Para-Ordnance and my good friend Ted Szabo passed away, on Wednesday, March 28th, 2007 around 3:30 pm. I just couldn't believe my eyes when I read the dreadful message. Ted was a marvellous man, a great firearm designer and above all a great friend. Our most sincere condolences to his wife Froso, his son Nicholas, his mother Helen, his father Bill, his partner Thanos Polyzos, as well as to all the people in the Para-Ordnance family. My dear friend, Lena and I will sorely miss you.

I am sorry to announce that Ron Stilwell, one of the owners of High Standard, ex-president of Colt, has passed away on Thursday March 1st 2007, after a bypass operation and short hospitalization. I've corresponded with Ron in the past and I had the chance to meet him in Orlando this year. I could hardly believe my ears when his partner and friend, Alan Aronstein told me about his death. Our most sincere condolences to Ron's family and friends, for the loss of their beloved man.
Farewell Ron, you will be missed.
